Hong Kong: Student-Gov negotiation cancelled as student leaders make shift in demands

Hong Kong chief executive Leung Chun-ying

According to government's top negotiator which announced Thursday night that talks of democracy between student leaders and Hong Kong government had been called off following shift in demands by the protesters. The meeting was supposed to be held tomorrow friday.

Below is the news conference briefing:

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam said the talks over electoral reform scheduled for friday would not go ahead because they have been “seriously undermined” by remarks from the student leaders.

Her announcement came hours after student leaders called for supporters to redouble their efforts to occupy the main protest zone — a highway outside government headquarters that they're now dubbing “Umbrella Square.”

The Occupy Central sit-in, which has closed parts of Admiralty, Causeway Bay and Mong Kok, in the Kowloon district, entered its 12th day yesterday and the three sites were still attracting dozens of protesters.
