Obafemi Martins claims Sounders’ Golden Boot, MVP Awards

Obafemi Martins has been voted Seattle Sounders’ best player for the second consecutive season.

The 31-year-old Super Eagles striker scored 15 times to also emerge the Major League Soccer side's top scorer.

"Humbled again to be named team MVP. However, all credit due to my teammates and coaches. Already focusing on 2016," Martins wrote on Twitter.

Despite missing two months with injury, the former Inter Milan and Newcastle player also provided six assists in 21 appearances.

His performances caught the eye of Nigeria coach, Sunday Oliseh, who duly handed him a recall after two years in the international wilderness.

Martins featured in the two legs of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Swaziland this month.
