Vanguard learned from competent sources that Bala Mohammed, who reported to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja at 10: 30a.m. yesterday was being detained for questioning extensively in connection with questionable schemes and projects undertaken by him when he held sway as FCT Minister between 2011 and 2015.
The detention and interrogation of Mohammed, according to sources, followed series of petitions against him by individuals and groups since 2013. A top source in the commission, who did not want to be named, said the former minister was confronted by EFCC operatives with evidence of sleaze and demanded answers from him.
One of the sources said: “The former minister has many questions to answer. It is very likely he will spend the night with us to enable our operatives to seek urgent answers to all the issues we have against him.”
It was learned that Mohammed’s trouble with the EFCC has to do with the controversial N1 trillion “Land Swap Programme” under which his administration traded large parcels of public land with some ‘selected’ private individuals and companies to develop housing projects in the FCT.
