Cristiano Ronaldo wins Alfredo di Stefano award for 'Best Player' in LaLiga

Receiving MARCA's Alfredo di Stefano award for the best player in LaLiga, Cristiano Ronaldo has signaled his motivation to work even harder to achieve future success.

The Portuguese star's haul of 35 goals and 11 assists saw him stave off competition from fierce rival Lionel Messi to win the award, but despite huge success over the past season, Ronaldo remains determined to give his all in the pursuit of further trophies.

"[The 2015/16 season] was filled with many emotions with the Champions League and the European Championship," he told the audience at the Florida Retiro. ''Today has also been a very special day with my contract renewal and a prize from MARCA, what else I can ask for? I'm very happy. This motivates me to keep working and get better in the next few years."

Asked about this year's LaLiga title race, the 31-year-old is unsurprised by Real's stiff competition, and expects whoever works hardest to eventually emerge triumphant.

"It's as competitive as expected, but this is not a sprint, it's a marathon and we are going to fight," he stated. ''As always God will help whoever works hardest."
