Photos from President Mugabe's 93rd birthday party

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe celebrated his 93rd birthday donning a cowboy hat and a jacket with his own face on it on Saturday (February 25) at Rhodes Preparatory School in Matopos, Matabeleland.

The huge birthday bash was attended by government supporters and delegates from ruling parties in Botswana, Namibia, Angola and Zambia.

His supporters crossed a river to attend his 93rd birthday celebrations.

Mugabe held his celebrations in an area that was affected by the 1980s Gukurahundi atrocities, where more than 20,000 civilians were killed by the North Korean Fifth Brigade, according to reports,

The former rebel leader, who took power after independence from white minority rule in 1980, declared a few days ago that he would run again for office in the 2018.

In a speech, the Zimbabwean leader who turned 93 on Tuesday described his life as a 'long, long journey,' saying it was difficult to predict how long it would last.

''The decision that you continue to live and to enjoy life is that of the one personality we all call the almighty God,'' he said.
