An aged woman was crushed to death while scores were injured as a trailer loaded with goods rammed into fleet of vehicles along Oke-Fi/ Ilobu road on Wednesday in Osogbo, Osun state.
Eyewitnesses’ account revealed that the trailer driver had lost control of the vehicle owing to break failure while trying to descend the hilly part of the road at Old NEPA junction in the area before it rammed into other vehicles from behind.
One of the eyewitnesses, a driver, who simply identified himself as Waheed, told our correspondent that the tragic incident occurred around 1:30pm.
According to Waheed, when other drivers saw that the trailer could no longer move forward, they started reversing with a view to escape being crushed by the trailer.
The eyewitness said that the trailer reversed with speed uncontrollably and rammed into other vehicles while some occupants of the affected vehicles sustained varying degrees of injuries.
It was gathered that one of the passengers whose identity is yet to be known, while trying to escape had jumped out of a mini commercial bus popularly called “korope” but she was not lucky as the trailer crushed her head.
A team of Police Detectives from the state Police Command, who had stormed the scene of the accident less than thirty minutes after the incident, towed the trailer and other affected vehicles to their station.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, confirmed the incident, disclosing that one person died and that the police had deposited her corpse at a morgue in one of the hospitals in the state.
