The prize for the best player of the 2015/16 Champions League season was awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo on Thursday at Madrid's AC Hotel La Finca.
Having finished the tournament as the top scorer with 16 goals to his name and having scored the winning penalty in the Milan final's shootout, the 31-year-old Real Madrid Forwaard was the player to receive the most votes in polls carried out by MARCA and La Gazzetta dello Sport readers at the end of each round of fixtures.
Juan Ignacio Gallardo - the editor of the former - and Gianni Valenti - the deputy editor of the latter - were on hand to present the Portuguese forward with the prize, while Florentino Perez, Zinedine Zidane and directors from the event's sponsor Nivea were also in attendance.
"I never expected to reach these numbers," Cristiano told those at the event."I knew that Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world, but I didn't expect to beat the numbers of [Alfredo] Di Stefano and Raul. My motivation is to keep making history at the best club in the world."
In his bid to retain the award, Ronaldo has already netted in both of the Champions League matches he has played in this season, scoring against Sporting and against Borussia Dortmund.
