Messi misses Club World Cup semi with renal colic

Lionel Messi will miss Thursday's Club World Cup semi-final against China's Guangzhou Evergrande in Yokohama because of abdominal pain caused by kidney stones, the Spanish club said.

''Leo Messi, last minute absentee from the Club World Cup semi-final. The player has renal colic,'' FC Barcelona said on its Twitter handle.

It is unclear whether the 28-year-old Barcelona forward will be available for Sunday's final in Yokohama, should Barcelona qualify, where South American champions River Plate are waiting.
