The 17-year-old whose name has been withheld confessed to poisoning her baby after giving birth in her parent’s bathroom.
The teenager who successfully hid her pregnancy from her family gave birth to a baby boy in her parents bathroom and then swiftly grabbed a bottled of bleach and poured it into the baby’s mouth.
Her aunt who came into the bathroom during the incident caught her red-handed and prevented further damage.
The child was badly scalded in the mouth and lips by the toxic chemicals, but survived after hospital treatment.
The young mother was charged with attempted murder, but at a hearing, the prosecution accepted a plea of guilty to a lesser charge of child cruelty.
The court admitted two psychiatric reports and also considered her age and background during hearing.
